City opens some revenue offices across the metro to members of the public

07 June 2020

Since 21 May 2020, the City of Cape Town has started the phased opening of cash offices across the metro.

The City’s cash offices in Strand, Plumstead, Table Bay Mall, Liberty Promenade Mall in Mitchells Plain, Parow, Kuils River and Lentegeur were all opened to members of the public.

Customers who do not have internet access and are not making use of the payment options available at retailers can now make municipal account payments, indigent applications, payment arrangements and rates rebate applications.

However, where possible, the City encourages customers who are able to perform their business online via the City’s online and e-Services to continue to do so.

All the necessary COVID-19 precautions were taken as guided by the Western Cape Government and National Authorities.

The City also plans to open its Motor Vehicle Registration and Licencing offices in a phased manner from Tuesday, 9 June 2020 and Wednesday, 10 June 2020 to members of the public.

Motorists are reminded that a 90-day grace period applies for expired driving licence cards, temporary driving licences, learner’s licences, PrDPs and vehicle registration and licence renewal discs from 1 June 2020.

Grace periods from 1 June for:

  • driving licence card renewals
  • learner’s licences
  • temporary permits
  • professional driving permits (PrDPs)
  • roadworthy certificates
  • the registering and licensing of a motor vehicle, as well as annual licence renewals

In addition, the validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number licence is extended for a further six months from 1 June 2020.

All vehicle owners who have applied online for the renewal of vehicle licences from 26 March 2020 need to re-apply online as all of those applications have either expired or could not be processed.
